Never heard of Encinitas? It’s a small coastal town about mid-way between Del Mar and Oceanside.
It’s a small little coastal town that’s got great beaches, amazing surf, fantastic (local) fish tacos, and a very cute San Diego b&b in the Inn at Moonlight.
This is a great little bed and breakfast San Diego location. I stayed there last year–say hi to Anne–and it’s super close to Moonlight Beach, a Southern California landmark.
And for a good little guide to Encinitas check out this article from SF Gate.
The Hotel del Coronado isn’t “technically” a San Diego bed and breakfast. (This resort once owned by Bing Crosby is more a complex than a sleepy bed and breakfast San Diego option.)
But there are a ton of little private cottages that can give a very beach San Diego bed and breakfast feel.
So…you were saying ghosts?
Well..in 1892 Kate Morgan checked in under an assumed name and claiming she was waiting for her brother, a doctor.
Later she purchased a gun and was found dead in front of the hotel. Many many employees at the Hotel have claimed stuff continues to move–and some rooms in the west side have strange noises. Might be a cool spooky bed and breakfast San diego adventure?
Local bed and breakfast San Diego mainstay, Carole’s on Grim St., heads list of top bed and breakfasts in California that are family-friendly.
This article from Geo parent has a cool list of top b and b’s that are good for the kids too.
It’s nice to see San Diego bed and breakfasts get some national love–especially those that are rugrat-friendly.
Carole’s is cozy–and super close to downtown and all the sights.
3227 Grim Avenue, San Diego, CA 92104. Hours: Check-in: 12 p.m., Check-out: 11 a.m.; Rates: $69-$259 per night.
Money may be tight…but not this weekend, according to Triple A motor club.
As this story illustrates, Triple A expects a 7 percent increase in travel on Southern California freeways this holiday weekend.
Why the sudden increase? The report mentions steadying gas prices–and a general optimism in the nation’s economy.
So if you’re one of those So Cal travelers and need an idea for a last-minute memorial weekend staycation idea check out my post on Bed and Breakfast San Diego romantic getaways.
That special somebody in your life will think you spent all year planning you trip to a delightful San Diego b&b. (I won’t tell a soul.)
Sure you can use this to plan the Bed and breakfast San Diego weekend of your dreams…but you can do a heck of a lot more. This tome has every frickin’ bed and breakfast, from Monterey to San Diego. The selection of San Diego B&B options isn’t the most extensive, books that focus squarely on SAn Diego might be a better fit. But if you’re looking for a more general guide for all the quaint cute b and b’s up and down the Pacific coast, then this edition should definitely be on your bookshelf.

Frommer’s may be sort of a strange name, but when it comes to travel guides there’s nobody better when it comes to honest reviews and critques of the places you want to see. That couldn’t anymore true than with their San Diego guide. Couple years ago I was looking for bed and breakfast San Diego options—I live here and I still had no idea where to take my wife for the weekend. It was the Frommer guide that told me to avoid the high-priced San diego b&b market in ritzy places like La Jolla and hit the road for some bargains further south. Better still, all the info I needed to make my weekend awesome was all there in the Frommer guide. So if you’re looking for straight reviews about the perfect San Diego bed and breakfast—or any other part of America’s Finest city—check out the Frommer San diego Guide.
